Steyr Rifle

The Individual Weapon (IW) Steyr is a 5.56mm assault rifle and is the primary small arms weapon used by the NZDF (New Zealand Defence Force). It is of Austrian design and made in Australia under licence by Thales in Lithgow.
The weapon can be configured with one of two standard barrel lengths, and there are a number that are also fitted with M203 Grenade Launchers. The weapon was introduced into service with NZDF in 1988.
The weapon has an automatic or semi automatic capability and is supplied with a 30 round magazine, sling and cleaning kit. The Steyr is equipped with an optical x 1.5 magnification sight and is capable of accurate fire up to 300 meters.

Pistol, 9mm Automatic P226

The Sig Sauer, P226, 9mm pistol has been in service with the NZ Defence Force since 1992. It is predominantly a self-defence weapon, although it does have specific offensive utility. Its use is preferred in confined for manoeuvrability in tight urban spaces, A recent purchase of P226 AL pistols with Picatinny rail built into the main frame now gives the user the opportunity to fit various ancillaries such as a white light torch direct to the pistol.
