Medium Range Anti Armour Weapon (MRAAW)

The Javelin MRAAW is being integrated into service over the 2006/2007 period. This weapon provides an anti-armour 'fire and forget' missile system for infantry.  It can be operated in both the man-portable and vehicle mounted roles.  It is a new, leading edge capability for NZ Army and will be an excellent asset for the infantry.

This weapon has been proven as a highly effective infantry weapon and is used extensively by both the US and UK forces.  The Javelin MRAAW is supplemented by a robust training system which provides for both indoor and outdoor training.

CARL GUSTAF M3

Carl Gusta 84mm Gun

The Carl Gustaf M3 is a man-portable light anti-armour weapon, and is used by infantry soldiers of the NZ Army.  It is a breech loaded weapon that can be fired from the standing, kneeling and prone positions and is capable of firing a variety of ammunition types, primarily with the aim of destroying enemy tanks and armoured vehicles.

This weapon has been in service with the NZ Army since 1989.  The Carl Gustaf M3 is capable of utilising a variety of ammunition types including:

  • High Explosive (HE)
  • High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT)
  • Smoke (SMK)
  • Phosphorus illumination (ILLUM)
  • 7.62mm subcalibre for training

The effective range is determined by ammunition type and operator ability.

The Carl Gustaf M3 is able to be fitted with an M995 Image Intensifier, Night Vision, 6X Zoom, Gen III to provide night capability. 

The Carl Gustaf M3 weighs 10.75Kg and is 1065mm long.
