Mercedes Benz 2228 Truck, Tractor and Trailer

Truck

The MB2228 truck is a 6x4 truck with no cross country capability.  Originally bought as a General Service cargo and troop carrying vehicle a number of vehicles have been reconfigured into 10 cubic metre dump trucks and 10,000ltr water tankers.

In the GS cargo role the vehicle is fitted with container twist locks that allow the carriage of 10ft, 13ft or 20ft ISO containers.  The deck is also fitted with recessed tiedown points and rope rails for the carriage of general cargo.  The vehicle can also be fitted with removable seating for troop transport.  In this role the vehicle can carry up to 24 troops.

Tractor Unit

The Mercedes Benz MB2228S/30 GS 6x4 tractor unit is used as the prime mover for third line semi-trailer units. It is a soft-skin, cab-overwheeled tractor unit with a commercial chassis. The vehicle has no cross country capability and is restricted to on road use only.

Trailers

The MB2228S/30 is utilised to tow:

• 23,000ltr Fuel Tanker for the movement of bulk fuel
• Lowbed GS 12,000kg trailer for the carriage of equipment or vehicles up to 12,000kg in weight.
• 18,000kg Bin Van for the carriage of general cargo.
