U1700L Unimog

The prime role of the 4x4, Unimog U1700L truck is operational load and troop carrying tasks. It is a wheeled, soft-skin vehicle designed to provide transport support, including replenishment, special force support, evacuation and administrative tasks. The vehicle has excellent off-road driving capabilities and is usually fitted with a winch for self recovery. A U1700L Unimog negotiates a river crossing.

The Unimog 1700L can be configured in a number of ways in order to meet the wide variety of tasks in has to fill:

Troop Transporter

When fitted with removable seats the Unimog is capable of transporting up to 16 troops on the back of the truck.

General Cargo

The vehicle is fitted with tie-down points on the deck for the carriage general cargo and container twist locks to allow for the carriage of 10 ft and 13 ft ISO shipping containers.

Unit Bulk Refuelling Equipment 

The vehicle can be fitted with Unit Bulk Refuelling Equipment (UBRE ).  UBRE consists of a 4000 litre rigid tank, pumps, meters, hoses which provide a mobile facility for the dispensing of fuel to all of Army’s equipment.  UBRE is secured to the Unimog using container twist locks and is capable of moving fuel over all types of roads and rough terrain.

Workshop Repair Shelters 

The vehicle can be fitted with Workshop Repair Shelters.  These are 13 foot ISO Containers that are fitted out with specialist workshop equipment such as lathes, welders and specialist tools so that RNZALR tradesmen can carry out repairs to Army equipment. The shelters will be used both while the unit is in camp and when it deploys on exercise or operations.

Water Tanker

The vehicle can be fitted with a purpose built 4,910 litre demountable water tank for the carriage of bulk water.  The tank has been designed with a low flat profile to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible to retain a good cross country capability when fitted to the vehicle.
