Location

The Band is based at Burnham Military Camp in the South Island and when they are not touring this is where they'll be, working and rehearsing.

Daily rehearsals can be from anywhere between 2-5 hours a day and the remainder of the time is spent carrying out individual practice, marching practice, School of Music practical and theory tuition, administration tasks and physical training (from sports and individual running to minor games).

The types of administrative tasks are varied, for example:

  • Public relations
  • Tour preparation
  • Music arranging
  • Sound engineering
  • Library work
  • Treasurer
  • Unit Historian

These administrative tasks not only provide variety to the job but also allow those who display a real aptitude for a certain area to learn a great deal and advance themselves to a high level of expertise.
