Culture & History

Courage, Commitment, Comradeship, Integrity.

The unique culture of the New Zealand Army has been shaped and defined by a range of complementary influences. These include the martial traditions of the British soldier and the Maori warrior; our history, heritage and experience of war; and the characteristics of wider New Zealand society.

Our culture helps develop and maintain espirit de corps, gives us a sense of our place as New Zealanders and (especially) New Zealand soldiers, and informs our doctrinal approach to operations.

In this section you can explore the various aspects of our culture, and learn more about the people and events that have shaped our Army.
