Parents and Friends

Timor Leste - Pte Wise. WN-06-0351-05-tn. It’s easy to understand why some people would have reservations about their family and friends joining the army.  The decision to become a member of the profession of arms shouldn’t be taken lightly.  The intention of this section is to provide information to parents, guardians, advisors and friends on some of the different aspects involved with a career with the NZ Army.

Throughout the recruiting process, there are opportunities for you to attend different recruiting presentations and the offer of service given to all applicants.  You are also welcome to attend the physical testing sessions!  If at any stage you have any queries, you are more than welcome to speak directly with a recruiting staff member who will answer these.

The minimum age to enlist into the NZ Army is 17 years old.  We do commence the recruiting process if an individual will turn 17 prior to their date of enlistment.  Please note, a person under 18 years of age shall not, unless he or she is or has been married, be eligible to enlist or be accepted for service in the NZ Army, if a parent or legal guardian objects to the enlistment. Also, nobody serving in the NZ Army who is under 18 years old is liable for active service.  You are encouraged to discuss this with your son or daughter and an NZ Army Recruiter if you have any concerns.

The following links are designed to provide an insight into different aspects of the NZ Army:
