Overseas Eligibility

Overseas Eligibility.

Introduction

The NZ Army is increasing its recruiting pool to include applicants of foreign nationality in order to meet personnel resource needs.

There is a current requirement to fill vacancies with skilled personnel with comparable qualifications and experience that cannot be satisfied by internal career progression within the NZ Army.

Eligibility

Applicants will need to meet the following basic criteria for consideration:

  • Be a current or recent ex-serving full time member of the UK, Australian, USA, Canadian or NZ Armed Forces.
  • Have been a citizen of either UK, Australia, USA, Canada or NZ for a minimum period of 10 years.

If successful through the recruitment process, applicants will need to gain a minimum of Permanent NZ Residency status. A working permit is not sufficient for enlistment into the NZ Army. It is the entire responsibility of the applicant to gain Residency and they must also bear all the associated costs, however, a Provisional Offer of Service will facilitate an application. As such applicants should not contact the NZ Immigration Service until they are successful through the recruitment process.

If you do not have any previous full time military experience you will need to meet the following criteria for consideration:

  1. Be a Permanent NZ Resident AND have either:
    1. Lived in New Zealand for at least 5 years
      OR
    2. Have held citizenship of Australia, Canada, US or the UK for at least 10 years.
  2. Be a New Zealand Citizen AND have either:
    1. Lived in New Zealand for at least 5 years
      OR
    2. Have held citizenship of Australia, Canada, US or the UK for at least 10 years.
