In a competitive employment environment, remuneration and other benefits are considered a vital part of the relationship between an employer and employee. Army is committed to pursuing the best possible employment conditions for soldiers. This is a summary of the current entitlements and conditions of service that are applicable to Regular Force personnel.
Accommodation Assistance
There are two forms of accommodation available for Regular Force personnel:
- Married Quarters - Each camp has its own area set aside for Married Quarters. The rents for the Married Quarters are set below market rent. Personnel who are the tenant of a Married Quarter are not entitled to the Universal Accommodation Component.
- Barrack Accommodation - Barrack accommodation is set aside for Officers, Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers and Junior Ranks (Privates – Corporal). There is a market rate charge for living in the barracks which range from $92.80 - $232.80 depending on the size and age of the barrack room. Regular Force personnel who live in the barracks are entitled to receive the Universal Accommodation Component.
Personnel who live in their own homes or rent privately - Regular Force personnel who elect to buy their own homes, or rent in the private sector are entitled to receive the Universal Accommodation Component (UAC). The UAC is an annualised taxable allowance $6131 gross, paid fortnightly.
Health
Medical and Dental Treatment
It is an Army requirement that you must be both medically and dentally fit. The Army provides access to first class medical and dental treatment in its own facilities.
Leave
The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year for all service personnel. In addition to annual leave there are 25 other categories of leave that you can apply for. These include study leave, representational leave, household removal leave, sick leave, and jury service leave (to name but a few). The most common form of additional leave, besides statutory holidays, is stand-down leave and equivalent leave (for working weekends and statutory holidays). After 6 years service you will also become eligible to apply for "incentive leave" and after 15 years service "long leave".
Recreational Facilities
All camp facilities, such as gymnasiums, swimming pools, libraries are available to you and your family. On occasions access is limited due to a training priority.

- Retail Stores: The Armed Forces Canteen Council will attempt to match deals on offer from other commercial outlets. The AFCC provides competitive rates and repayment options.

- Army Leave Centres: The Army has leave centres, throughout New Zealand, which have been designed for family holidays and are also an excellent venue for groups to use. Each unit is fully self-contained and most can accommodate six people. (As a result of reciprocal agreements Army personnel and their families are eligible to use holiday facilities provided by the RNZAF, Navy, Police and the Fire Service. Overseas accommodation is also available in Australian Army leave centres.)
