New Zealand Army Officer Selection Process

The first step in the process to joining the NZ Army is to fill out the application form on the website. Once you've done this you'll be contacted by your local Recruiting office who will arrange the remainder of the process with you. The process in outline is:

  1. Apply Online.
  2. Attend an Officer Presentation and Aptitude Test session.
  3. Attend an interview with a Recruiting Officer.
  4. Attend an Officer Selection Board Presentation.
  5. Pass the Officer Selection Board.
  6. Attend Officer Cadet School Initial Officer Training - Commissioning Scheme.

Eligibility

  1. You should be self-motivated and display leadership potential.
  2. You must be 17 years of age or over.
  3. You must meet the academic requirements for your chosen scheme.
  4. You should be medically and physically fit.
  5. You must have a clear police record.
  6. For Tertiary Schemes, you should preferably be aged between 17 and 22.
  7. You must have New Zealand Citizenship (Permanent Residency may be sufficient in some cases).
