Foreword

The Army Strategic Plan articulates the key choices that the Army leadership team and I have made as the New Zealand Army moves into a period of exciting and challenging change. This website outlines a summary of the main areas in our plan and importantly shows what our mission, vision, ethos and values are.

The Strategic Plan has been developed at a time when the government has provided Defence with an additional $4.6 billion dollars to operate new equipment projects and grow our personnel numbers. Army is also in a process of transformation which includes a fundamental review of the optimum structure we should have to deliver what the government requires of us.

We have adopted the core themes of  “restore, grow and optimise”.  This means we must firstly restore our capabilities, then grow them to meet the outputs required by government and in the final phase optimise what we have to make best use of the resources allocated.

My leadership team is accountable for the objectives set and each year we prepare an Annual Plan that details what we are doing in that period towards the achievement of goals outlined in this Strategic Plan.
