New Vice Chief of Defence Named
Rear Admiral Jack Steer, ONZM.

The Chief of the Defence Force LT GEN Jerry Mateparae and Defence Minister Phil Goff are pleased to announce that Rear Admiral Jack Steer, ONZM, will be the new Vice Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force (VCDF). RA Steer, presently Commander Joint Forces New Zealand, will succeed the current VCDF Air Vice Marshal David Bamfield, ONZM, who is to retire in February 2008.
Rear Admiral Steer, a navy officer, is currently the Commander of Joint Forces New Zealand. He was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 1995 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
