Movember Moustache Madness
6 November 2007
It’s that time again - Movember - the time of year when you can grow a mo and raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
We had a pretty good response from Army last year including a large team of personnel deployed in Afghanistan. This year we aim to have some real winners from Army and get some good publicity to make up for all that hairy, itchy, scratchy and, occasionally embarrassing, growth.
If you haven’t already entered and want to be involved you’ll need to register online on www.movember.com If you are part of a team your team captain can register your team online also.
The rules state that you need to have a clean shaven face to start with. You then have the rest of November to grow and groom your moustache and while you’re doing that raise some money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand, learn about men’s health issues and have some fun.
There are some great prizes available online this year including the chance for those that raise over $30 to enter a draw to win a Holden SS Ute. So get your friends and family to sponsor you.
You may like to compete with other units or services to see who can grow the bushiest moustache or the most ridiculous moustache. Remember that this is a voluntary activity and normal command and service prerogatives and orders apply.
The POC for Movember is Ally Clelland at DPRU so if you’re taking part in Movember please let Ally know and send in any before and after photographs of you and your team. She’d also like to know if you or your team are doing anything unusual or special and at the end of the month how much money you’ve managed to fund raise.
All funds raised during Movember go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand which will use the money to create awareness, increase support networks for men with from prostate cancer, fund research and scholarship programs. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and kills about 600 men per year so this is a very worthwhile cause.
Even if you didn’t start at the beginning of November there is still time to get involved, so get mooooving.
