“DRIVE SAFELY-ALL THE TIME”
Personnel need to maintain their driving standard on and off-duty.

“THE DRIVING DECISIONS ARE YOURS…
AND SO ARE THE CONSEQUENCES”
Ultimately the driver is responsible for their actions and decisions, and must face the consequence of penalties or causing death or injury to other road users, or damage to vehicles.

“LOOK AFTER YOUR SOLDIERS AND YOUR MATES”
Based on our reliance on teamwork, commanders must conduct vehicle operations in a safe manner and fault check poor driving. All of us have a responsibility to keep an eye on our mates and our soldiers to stop them from driving dangerously or irresponsibly.

DRIVING AND VEHICLE OPERATIONS ARE CAPABILITY AND FORCE PROTECTION ISSUES
Whether training in NZ, or on operations overseas, every vehicle that is damaged and every soldier who is killed or injured impacts on our ability to do our job and to bring our people home safely.

DRIVING AND VEHICLE OPERATIONS ARE 'CORE' SKILLS
One of the best ways to educate personnel is to provide them with the necessary training. Driving is a basic skill that soldiers require to be effective within units, and it must be afforded the same priority as other skills such as physical fitness and weapon handling.

‘LEAD TO WIN…DRIVE TO SURVIVE.’
Encompassing part of the Army’s mission statement, this theme reinforces the responsibility of the commander and driver. There is risk in much of what soldiers do, but our aim is to succeed without the loss of our people and equipment through road crash, especially where a lack of leadership or poor driver behaviour is a factor.
