New Look for Army Band Truck

19 June 2007

New artwork on NZ Army Band truck. The Army Band’s new truck, which features photographic murals on the band’s activities, is becoming a familiar sight around New Zealand.

Not only does the truck look good and advertise the band, it makes life much easier for band members to load and unload their equipment, says band manager Staff Sergeant Ian Cotton.

“Some pieces of our equipment weigh about 160kg, and it was heavy and awkward to load the old trucks we used. Also, shorter band members found it difficult getting into the back of the truck to help load their instruments. The new vehicle has a hydraulic lift which makes it easier to get gear on and off the back.”

When the band is on the road it takes about six tonnes of gear with it, including platforms, instruments and uniforms. Band members drive the truck, but the majority travel to venues by bus.
