Army Chefs and Stewards Win in Wellington

Chefs and stewards from Trentham and Linton competed in the Wellington Culinary Fare at the Westpac stadium recently.
All competitors showed their counterparts from polytechs and within industry Army have the skills and knowledge and continue to develop these skills, even if most of its time is spent doing the normal day to day tasks within the messes to keep skills and techniques up to scratch.
Trentham entered two teams in the Ian MacLennan Memorial Trophy. Both teams gained a silver medal, with .8 of a mark between them, while the team from Linton also gained a silver medal.
Teams from Trentham consisted of: Team One - Privates Tupaea, Hermansen and Lyon; Team Two - Privates Crosland, Coombe and Turnbull. The Linton team consisted of Privates Whitehouse, Tam and Wiseman.
Twenty two medals were won by Army chefs and stewards over the weekend with four overall class winners. A great achievement by all who took part.
WO2 Burt, Eriksson (CMT Waiouru) and Sgt Green (Trentham) took on the role of judges over the weekend. Mrs Warren manned the reception desk and WO2 Russell was part of the organising committee for the fare.

Results from the weekend saw a number of medals and certificates won by chefs and stewards from Trentham and Linton:
- CPL Wallace (Trentham) a certificate of merit for his gateau.
- CPL Wallace and Pte Newton (Trentham) a Bronze medal for their buffet centrepiece. Both entrants made margarine carvings.
- LCPL Stuart (Trentham) Silver medal and class winner for her Child’s Decorated Birthday Cake.
- PTE Fuller certificate of participation, PTE Lyon a Bronze Medal (Trentham), PTE Hogan (Linton) a Silver medal in the Superb Soup Class.
- PTE Hermansen (Trentham) Certificate of Participation in the Beef Main Course Class.
- PTE Wiseman (Linton) Certificate of Participation in the Hot Chicken Brunch class.
- PTE Tam (Linton) Bronze medal in the Pasta Main Course.
- PTE's Tupaea and Maidens (Trentham) Bronze medals and PTE Lyne (Trentham) with a Certificate of Participation in the Trainee Waiters Table.
- PTE Gibbs (Trentham) Gained a Bronze medal in the Beer and Food Match.
- PTE Gibbs (Trentham) Silver Medal, PTE Hogan Certificate of Participation in the Fresh Fruit Flan.
- PTE's Crosland and Tupaea (Trentham) Bronze medals PTE Whitehouse (Linton) gained Silver Medal in the Wine and Food Service with PTE Whitehouse being the overall class winner.
- LCPL Stuart Certificate of Merit in the Antipasto Platter
- PTE Tupaea, Crosland and Lyne (Trentham) Certificates of Participation and PTE Maidens (Trentham) Silver medal in the Classic Cocktail Collation class.
- PTE Crosland (Trentham) Gold medal and Class winner for her Professional Waiters Themed Table
- PTE Hogan (Linton) Bronze medal in the Pork Main Course.
- PTE's Tupaea, Crosland, Maidens, Lyne (Trentham) Certificates of Participation in the Wellington Barista 2007 Class.
- PTE Tupaea (Bronze), PTE Lyne (Trentham) Certificate of Participation and PTE Crosland (Gold) and class winner in the Wine and Cheese Food Service.
- LCPL Comerford (Trentham) Bronze Medal in the Original Innovative Cocktail Collation.
