Promotions and Presentations 1 RNZIR

Several promotions and presentations were made at the 1st Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment’s first battalion parade of 2007:

  • Private Jonathon Cantwell and Trooper Joshua Hermansen were promoted to Lance Corporal
  • Lance Corporal Amit Chowdhry promoted to Corporal
  • Corporal Justin Carter promoted to Sergeant
  • Sergeants Tumau Hoggart and Tim Sorenson promoted to Staff Sergeant

CO 1 RNZIR LT COL Howard and RSM WO1 Wright promote SSGT Hoggart while SSGT Sorensen awaits his turn.

MOST VALUABLE SOLDIER: TPR Tyran Poi
TPR Poi was presented the Commanding Officer’s bayonet for the “1 RNZIR Most Valuable Soldier” for providing the most value to the battalion in the preceding 12 months. TPR Poi will carry this chromed bayonet on unit parades.

30-YEAR PLAQUE: WO2 Ian “Bones” Leabourne
LT COL Howard presented WO2 Leabourne with his 30-year plaque on behalf of the Regimental Colonel of the RNZAC. WO2 Leabourne has served in every RNZAC unit in the Army since enlisting as a Regular Force cadet in January 1977, and is currently posted to 1 RNZIR as Technical Warrant Officer. The CO commended WO2 Leabourne for his service, the sacrifices he and his family had made, and the example he provided the young soldiers on parade.
