The Chief of Army (CA) commands the NZ Army providing leadership and management to all Regular and Territorial Force personnel and our civilian staff. The Chief of Army is responsible for ensuring Army meets the goals set by the Chief of Defence Force and the New Zealand Government, and he is the principal advisor to the Chief of Defence Force on NZ Army matters.

The General Manager Corporate Support (GMCS) supports the Chief of Army in discharging his responsibilities. GMCS is responsible for the strategic level logistic, finance and reputation management of the NZ Army and represents Army in a number of defence forums.

The Land Component Commander (LCC) is the principal adviser to Commander Joint Forces New Zealand and his staff on the employment of land force capabilities. The Land Component Commander commands assigned land forces and this responsibility includes contributing soldiers to overseas operations.

The Sergeant Major of the Army is often referred to as the senior soldier in the NZ Army. The SMA is an advisor to the Chief of Army on matters affecting the training, management and welfare of the soldiers of the NZ Army.
