NZ Army National Secondary Schools Rugby League Tournament 2008

Secondary School Rugby League Tournament T-Shirt (AW-08-0831-1-tn). As official host of the tournament, Wainuiomata High School is proud to have the support of the NZ Army for this event.  The army are providing much needed funding and resources to enable this event to be a success.  The tournament website has been updated to include all of the information you require plus the update including draw and running details.  www.nzssrl.weebly.com

The Tournament has been reduced to a four-day event (Monday-Thursday) during which teams will be required to play at least four games.  In all cases there will be one day when each team will be required to play two games.  This was to enable teams to travel home on the Friday.

At the bottom of this page is the running sheet which is the official event schedule for the tournament. Also at the bottom is the official draw which lists game play times and layout for the tournament.  Please note that a compulsory Powhiri is on Monday 01 September, for all teams and players, which is followed by a catered late morning tea/light lunch.  Games 1, 2, 3 and 4 will take place in the afternoon.  Teams are required to wear #1's to the Powhiri.

Following the Powhiri on Monday morning each team will receive a player pack consisting of merchandise and a Tournament Programme.  Morning Tea on Monday is supplied by Wainuiomata High School, as is the sit-down Presentation Dinner on Thursday evening.  You will not be required to cater for your teams for this meal.  Everything will be provided for you.  Meals at other times are the responsibility of team management.  Coffee/snack caravans will be onsite during game play for spectators.  It is the responsibility of each team's management to see that their own teams follow a healthy eating plan.

Tuesday and Wednesday are full playing days, where Games 5-20 are played.  Local schools in the Hutt Valley region have been invited to attend on either of these days to support all the playing teams and introduce Rugby League to primary and intermediate students.   It would be appreciated if teams could arrive in their playing kit for Games 5-8 on Tuesday and Games 13-16 on Wednesday to relieve pressure on changing rooms in Gyms, which are also required by Wainuiomata High School students during class time.

Day Four (Thursday 04 September) is Final's Day where every team will be playing at least one game.  Following the final game, the NZ Army will present the shield in a media photo opportunity and then all teams will be getting ready for the Presentation Dinner (hangi), supplied by Wainuiomata High School, in the Gym.  Prior to the dinner (while the teams get cleaned up), a Manager's Meeting will be held in the High School staffroom as a tournament debrief and to discuss options for the 2009 tournament.  The dinner will be followed by the presentation of MVP's, Tournament Team and Shield and medals to the winning team.

Access to and from the fields will be via gates parallel to the fields.  Access to the High School is restricted as classes will be running during the tournament.  Wainuiomata High School students will not be permitted onto the field area during game time within school hours (8:45am - 3:00pm).
