Christmas Cheer with the NZ Army Band
"Christmas Cheer"
Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington
4th December 2007
7.00pm

Mark your calendar – the Army Band will be performing a special Christmas concert at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington on December 4. The concert, “Christmas Cheer with the NZ Army Band” begins at 7pm, and tickets can be purchased through Ticketek. The music programme has a Christmas theme, as well as highlighting activities the NZ Army Band has been involved with this year.
Wellington vocalist Lisa Tomlins will perform with the band. Among her many appearances includes singing in the band on “Dancing With the Stars”.
Highlights of the night will include Santa Claus, a solo performance from the band’s own New Zealand Champion of Champions Sgt Phil Johnston, carol singing and the debut performance of “NZ Soldier Song”, a song written for the NZ Army by Don MacLeod.
A large screen above the band displays video and power point presentations during the concert to enhance the music. This concept was successfully developed last year during the “A Night To Remember” concert which was a tribute to music evolved from conflict throughout the last century. Images from our military heritage were used to highlight the different periods and battles fought.
The band has recently finished recording its latest CD, “Lest We Forget” which is a selection of military and ceremonial music. It features t the Slow March of the NZ Unknown Warrior, Pokarekare Ana, the Maori Battalion March, Abide With Me and music from the Retreat Ceremony.
LCPL Mike Chesnutt completed a Sound Engineering Course in Auckland last year and enjoyed putting his new skills to work. This is the first time the band has been able to professionally record their own CD in the band room. The CD will be on sale for the first time at the Wellington Concert in December.
Tickets available through Ticketek.
