Army Competitors Take on the Challenge
The Auckland Marathon is the largest marathon in NZ attracting over 10,000 competitors. On 28 October 2007, over twenty NZ Army competitors from units around the country descended on Auckland to represent the NZ Army in the marathon, half marathon and quarter marathon. There was also a large NZ Army Recruiting presence at this event, with the aim of showcasing the NZ Army as a viable career option to both competitors and supporters alike.
Some competitors were attracted by the challenge of completing their first marathon or half marathon. Some wanted to use the event to kick-start a new fitness regime. Some were aiming for a personal best time. And some just wanted to give it a go. All who participated thoroughly enjoyed the day and gave it their best shot. And, what better way to spend a Sunday morning?
The competitors were sporting NZ Army branded dri-fit t-shirts supplied by the Army Reputation Cell. Many people at the event commented positively on the distinctive slogans screen-printed across the back of the t-shirts and were glad to receive a sugar boost from the NZ Army branded black and white jellybeans when they crossed the finish line. NZ Army Recruiting had displays and interactive challenges set up throughout the day and interest in the rope climb challenge was steady. All in all a successful day!!
Well done to all those who put their hands up to represent the Army (no matter what your time). Thanks for helping Army Recruiting make this a successful event to promote NZ Army careers and get the brand out there at such a large and high profile sporting event. Thanks also to the Combat School and ARSC for the support provided.
