7 WnHB Open Day

IT’S NOT EVERY BATTLEFIELD THAT ALLOWS SPECTATORS!

The Territorial Force Open Day, Saturday 16 August, 12.00 – 16.30 pm at Roys Hill range. The NZ Army is putting it’s local Hawkes Bay and Wellington Territorials (7th Wellington and Hawkes Bay Battalion Group – 7 WnHB) on show. The open day is an opportunity to see TF soldiers in action: the public will get to see simulated battle drills, weapons handling, urban warfare training and navigation (to name but a few activities that will be happening).

It’s also an opportunity to find out more about a part time role in the TF. There will be the soldiers and officers on hand to talk about what the TF has to offer - personal development, fitness, adventure, new skills and experiences are just part of it.

The open day will be the 2nd day of a three day “Skill at Arms” (SAA) competition being conducted by 7 WnHB. The SAA competition is an exercise which should physically and mentally test the soldiers and officers within the unit. Another exercise recently conducted by the unit focused specifically on house clearing techniques and this will definitely be put into practice during the SAA. Ongoing training and keeping skills fresh is particularly important for members of 7 WnHB. The Territorial Force are afforded many opportunities to deploy overseas - currently 7WnHB have 12 pers deployed on OP RATA (Solomon Islands) with another 5 pers preparing to deploy on OP GYRO (Timor Leste) in Nov, and a couple more off to OP RATA in the near future.  Click here to find out more about where NZ Army soldiers are deployed overseas.
