From South-East Asia to Afghanistan the first 50 years
1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment 1957-2007 is a book written and compiled for the purpose of commemorating the service of the Battalion both nationally and internationally and in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration weekend of the Battalion. The resulting book is an extensively detailed hard cover history of the Battalion from 1957 – 2007, succeeding the book released for the 25th Anniversary of the Battalion.
Each CO throughout the Battalion’s 50 year history heads a new chapter, and recalls life in the Battalion under his command, with photos to accompany the text. There are recounts of exercises undertaken, day to day life and people of the Battalion. In addition to an array of personnel photos there are also group photographs of Officers, Warrant Officers, and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.
The nostalgic factor is high, and ensures this book will remain a memoir of any serving soldier’s time in the battalion. The purpose of the book is to make certain events and traditions are remembered and not lost as generations of men and women pass through the Battalion. This book should be widely read by not only those that have served or are serving, but by the New Zealand public who are interested in how 1RNZIR has served our nation.
